Sign in to disble this ad
Heres the deal:
I stuck a setlist on the upper horn back in 2002 - I've just removed the tape and I CANNOT get the residue off...
...seriously, boiling water with BLEACH won't shift it - its just on the upper horn all thick and sludgy (to give you an idea - its transparent sludge - but stick yer finger against the bass and press down and move around in a circular motion and you get a thick BLACK ring around where your finger was on the bass...the slime is pretty horrible, stays on your fingers for half an hour after fiddling, scrubbing with hot water is the ONLY way of removing it from your hands!)
I don't wanna damage the finish...its pretty much intact from what I can make out, any ideas what to try aside from a re-finish?
P.S. if it helps its a 2000 MIM jazz, polyeuthane finish (shine seems to have gone from the small bit which had bleach on it...)

Don't use bleach. What kind of finish is it? |

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | Naptha. AKA Zippo lighter fluid. Works like a charm and won't harm most finishes. (I say most because I haven't used it on all) It didn't hurt my Rickenbacker so I figure you gotta be good to go.
Oh, and AVOID alcohol!!!!

It's used in artwork and for other uses but it is an excellent adhesive remover and grease remover. There are about 4 versions of Lift-Off, but the others are stain removers.
Spray it on, wait about one minute, then wipe firmly with a paper towel. It may take more than one application but I have never seen it harm a finish, and I have yet to find any common adhesive that it won't soften and remove.
Or order it from Amazon if you don't find it locally: http://www.amazon.com/Motsenbocker-L...f=pd_sbs_hpc_2
It's in the same class as "Goo Gone" and "Goof Off"...but I have found the Lift-Off to work well not only on adhesives, but my wife also uses it on greasy stains on laundry.

| | | | I vote for naptha (lighter fluid). Some of those orange-scented stain removers/goo removers contain acetone, which is bad for some finishes.
But poly is pretty tuff stuff.

Pure lemon oil will do just as well. I have used both for similar situations so I know of what I speak. )-(
