Action at the nut? (controls string height above first fret)

Action at the Bridge? (Controls over all string height and intonation)

or Action (relief) on the neck? (controls relief and can be adjusted to compensate for condition of frets and playing style)

All ways of tweaking the action that all go together to make a good setup. If one of those 3 is off then the action and playability of the instrument can suffer.

I think there's some stickies at the top of the forum regarding setup.

If the stickies at the top of this section are not help for you, take the bass to your local shop and have them set it up. It is generally a nominal fee and you will not believe how nice a bass is once set up for your playing style.

And it is not that hard to learn.

I would hesitate to use the phrase "very good bassist" in any association with my name
