How to ground a pickguard

Sign in to disble this ad
To ground a p-bass pickguard do I simply stick on the adhesive foil on the back of the pickguard? If so, how much do I cover? the entire back?

Thank you for your time.

No, you shouldn't need to cover the entire back. just around the pickup area and the control cavity areas. Perhaps you can just cover just the routed areas on the underside of the pickguard.

you can't ground the pickguard. You could, however, shield it, and ground the shielding. Make sure to shield your cavity too, that will make a world of difference. Cheers!

One should always shield their cavity.

There is an excellent tutorial on shielding/grounding here:

basses for newbies (SX batch build thread)

Starts near bottom of p. 11 and continues over to p. 12.
