How High is your Action?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondering from the 17th fret how many mm high is your action?

I have a Schecter 004 and mine is E=3mm A=2.5mm D=2mm and G=2.5mm with no buzz.
Was wondering what others are getting cause I would like to go lower but I get buzz.

Personal, I don't mind a little buzz when I'm playing. I have a maple fretboard and a little buzz makes it sizzle nicely.

At the 24th fret, my Roscoe LG is set up with 6/64" (2.38 mm) to the B, and 4/64" (1.59 mm) to the G. The neck has maybe 0.25 mm relief.

Great with a light touch. No fret buzz unless you really, really dig in.

Just put new strings on my Precision, and following a setup - 1mm G-string at 17th fret, 1.3mm E-String at 17th fret. No fret buzz fingerstyle or with a pick.

The nut is a little high and the neck has a slight twist which gives me problems setting up the relief the way I want to, otherwise I could probably put it a little lower. This summer I plan on getting a graphite replacement neck which will hopefully let me put the G string at about .8mm at the 17th.

Moved to Setup and Repair.

However, the action on my P-bass is higher than the rest.
My 7-string is low, but my fretless is lowest.

My action is anywhere from 2/32" to 3/32" at the 12th fret depending on the instrument and string.

I use the old Mark 1s to check relief holding the E string to the 1st and 15th frets and adjust until it looks right.

Take it to a professional technician and they'll probably be able to help you out.

Sounds almost exactly like I have mine. Gotta love a Roscoe.

my sx fiver..i ordered a new neck...but the old one was like that any how i just wanted the blocks...anyways im pretty sure i have..well i did shim it a little bit but for god sakes i cannot get the action any lower to save my life without some insane buzz....i leveled the frets with a very primitive manner but got it done....buzzes with no shim from the about the 12th fret on up...actually scratch that... it makes not noise..the strings hit the first few higher frets...so shim it and its still pretty hight with no buzz...idk wut to do because theres really no techs in my area so thats why ive had to attempt to learn this on my own i just wish someone could show/teach me ya know but my spector is pretty low with a little buzz for that added growl my g&l isnt all too bad although id like it a little lower and my douglas is fairly low. my other sx jazz is decent after i leveled the frets but again on that one the upper register buzzes a little but its very very clacky and lacks huge sustain which didnt happen before i "leveled" the frets...any input...dont mean to steal the thread

As Mr. Entwhistle once said, I like my strings on the other side of the frets.

If that's a shot of the 5th fret, I can't imagine that bass being anything but completely exhausting to play.

Looks like mine too! As high as I can stand it and not hurt myself or have screwy intonation. In particular for recording . . .
