How to Intonate a 2-saddle Bridge?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a sting signature bass... i changed the strings just yesterday, the i want to work on the guitar's intonation. it seems ok but it's not really 100% intonated.

Since the bridge is the 2-saddle variety, i just would like to ask directions on how to intonate this properly?

I believe the same principle for the 4-saddle bridge holds true, but how do u make sure that only one of the string is affected if you only have one saddle to move back and forth?

You don't.

You have to set the saddle where the two strings are evenly "off." One a little sharp and the other a little flat.

I would intonate it by removing it and replacing it with a good bridge.

I have an old Univox Hi-Flyer bass that came with a 2-saddle bridge like no other I've ever seen. The saddles pivot, allowing you to set the position of each string "individually" (and fix the saddle position with a screw in the center.

Unfortunately, one of the "fixing" screws became stripped and I've had to resort to a temporary replacement. But it is definitely possible to get intonation with this adjustable 2-saddle bridge.

Anyone else ever seen one of these?

Yes its compromise on that type bridge and replaceing it with four saddle bridge is best fix.

Serious answer... try different gauges and brands to find sets that sound good to you and get to wh ere the compromise isn't too bad for you. My Sting played nicely in tune with DR Sunbeams 45/65/85/105 and the Lakland Joe Osborn flats that have been on for the last twop years (similar gauges) are great.
