How Low or High?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello All,

How Low or High is your Strings on your Bass? Mine are on the high side and I think I should lower them. How low do some of u have them? Do u get fret buzzing? Is that normal for some of u? Any info would would be great.

Thanks

Shaun

I set mine up where a light to medium attack yields no buzz, but if I really dig in I get a little buzz. I like it this way because when I attack hard I want a percussive edge to my sound.

I keep mine pretty low, but I don't play as hard as I used to. I can get the same (and better) dynamic range as I ever did, but it's easier on my CTS.

I don't really have a specific height, i just adjust it until it's comfortable for me to play.

Fender recommends a string height (better known as "action") of 6/64". That means the gap between the bottom of the low E string and the top of the 12th fret should be 6/64". That's about the thickness of a penny and a dime stacked on top of each other.
