I teach at an exclusive bass only store, and have setup tens of all kinds of basses, high end and moderately priced ones and I would say the single most factor in getting a good setup and feel is Neck Relief. If that neck is not straight enough for the kind of right hand touch you have you'll never get the right feel no matter how low you go with the bridge and nut.
