How much would it cost to rewire my bass and get a new nut installed?

That will depend on what your bass is and who you take it to. Most shops in Toronto have reasonable rates. Some do good work, some don't. If you can take it to The Twelfth Fret in Toronto for the work they'll do an excellent job, but they're not the cheapest around. I don't know what you have locally for repair guys. What bass is it you need worked on?

my 1977-78 (im not so sure) yamaha superbass. The nut has been shaved to low on the E string and I think the grounding wire wasn't soldered good because it gets a really bad hum when I use one pickup or turn up the treble, mids. And yes i have been to the Twelfth fret its a great high end store where my dad got his les paul. I'm probably gonna save up and go their because we all know long and mcquade in burlington and missisauga don't have "great" repairsmen.

I used to live a couple blocks from the Twelfth Fret and have been in there a lot. They know their business although they charge accordingly. They'll treat you right. They did the setups on the Stones instruments at the start of a couple of their tours when the Stones rehearsed in Toronto.

The Long and McQuade store on Bloor W. in Toronto has done good work, but I haven't used them for a few years so I don't know if the same guys are in their repair department.
