How to remove annoying fretless buzz?

Sign in to disble this ad
With the changes in the weather we've had here on Long Island this month, first mild/dry, now cool/rainy/humid, I've noticed my 5-string fretless (a left-handed Brice HXB-405) gradually pick up a lot of annoying buzz closer to the neck in the first few positions. Higher up the neck it still plays fine, and still has that great mwah sound which I want to keep. Have always had my tech make adjustments, but time is too short this week with an important gig coming up on Saturday, so will have to adjust myself--my first guess would be to add a little neck relief to see where that takes things? Am trying to reduce the amount of trial-and-error needed, and wonder what other fretless players' mileage has been. Thanks!

Yep, loosening the truss rod about one-half turn did the trick. Odd forum where I talk to myself and I answer back!
