How to remove string ferrules

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been searching here but can't find what I'm after.

I'm refinishing a bass and want to remove the ferrules but would like to know the best method of doing this without damaging the bass

This is always risky

but here is what I do. I drive then out with a drift punch from the bridge side. BEFORE I start tapping I heat the ferrule with a soldering iron to break the joint.
Good luck,
Rob
