How to rid residue on neck.

Sign in to disble this ad
I just recently ordered a Goncalo Alves/Ebony neck from a guy, and when I received it there was some sort of residue left on the head stock. I asked him about it and he mentioned he had a Warmoth sticker on there and he quickly peeled it off.

Being that the neck isn't finished, could I use goo-be-gone? I don't want to ruin anything. What could I use?

Where could I find a bottle? I was also thinking about lemon oil. I have some of that lying around the house. Would that work? I've only heard about it being used on fretboards though..

Well the original spot is on the back of the headstock, so noone can see it. It just bothers me when I play low. My thumb sometime runs against it.

Whatever you do, make sure the stuff you use is silicone free. Silicone will get into the wood and make it impossible to finish. (I'd give naptha or WD-40 a shot myself)

WD40?!? To clean a neck? & If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is Naptha? A soap, spray, what?

Goo Gone will certainly work. That's what I would use. Is it the right stuff to use? I dunno. I'd just try to make sure I get all of the goo gone residue off once I was finished getting the sticker residue off.

Naptha is really just lighter fluid, so if you've got a local store that sells Zippo fluid or somethign similar that should work. Just in case you don;t want to use goo gone.

I use WD-40 to get goo off from stickers. You can try rubbing alcohol too.

Naptha is lighter fluid. WD-40 is basically just an oil based solvent. I've used it to clean fret boards and strings before.

i would try alcohol (rubbing) first. its not as strong as naptha. naptha seems to leave behind an oily residue when it dries on your fingers,(try it) if the wood is unfinished i would worry about that.

Alcohol is definitely the only thing that will not leave a residue of any type. Try it first as long as there is no lacquer on the neck, otherwise you will make a mess.

No lacquer. Just solid unfinished Goncalo Alves wood.

why not try a razorblade if you are careful you can scrape all the sticky mess off.
