a no special tuning as is, out of the box default

b bass guitar when playing with acoustic piano

I play electric bass, 1988 rickenbacker to be exact.

does anyone else use the peterson strobe tuners, and if so, what "sweetened tuning" do you use?

stick with standard chromatic.

any tuning that's "sweetened" will by the nature of equal temperament be "sweetened" for some keys but "soured" for others.

I use the sweetened tuning, but mainly because I almost always play with a piano. It tends to get closer and sound better with the piano than standard. I normally make sure the strings are in tune with themselves after using the tuner anyway, and for me it's closer than standard.

Unless your bass was set up with the Feiten tuning, using that preset will have more headaches.

My Petersons have some type of "bass" tuning which is engaged by depressing the F clef button when powering up. Don't have a clue as to what it really does.

It is supposed to make it easier to tune the lower strings, especially the B. I never found that it worked better over the regular tuning on my StroboFlip.
