Question How would I upgrade an Ibanez SRX700 bridge?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had a lot of time on my hands lately (I just got over mono), and so I've been putting together my (affordable) dream bass. So far, It's going to be an Ibanez SRX700. I've played with it a bit @ Guitar Center, and it was veeery nice. I thought the stock pups were alright, but I think I'm going to want to upgrade them, as well as the preamp. Probably Nordstrand MM's with an Aguilar preamp.

But my question is... well exactly what the title of the thread is.
Would I be able to put a Badass on there, or are those specifically for Fenders?

Any constructive help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
BrodieMan13

I see no advantage to upgrading to a BA bridge. The standard bridge on the bass has plenty of mass, fully adjustable, and seems to be well constructed. The BA shines when replacing a fender type bent tinfoil bridge.

i agree, the stock Ibanez bridge is one of it's strengths. you'll have tone and adjustability.

Also the stock pickups are great too. I have gotten get some incredible recorded tones with a stock soundgear.

an out board sadowski preamp and an SWR SM500 delives incredible results direct.

Use your time to practice!

I wouldn't fool around with that bass. The stock bridge is excellent and I can't see a Badass improving it. Same with the pickups-those are the Alnico versions in the SRX700. They sound great. That bass is now discontinued and it's a shame. The replacement is the SRX 590 which has the ceramic pickups used in the lower SRX series. Still good pickups but I think the Alnico ones sound a bit better.

If you want an SRX700 better grab that one.

I missed out on my chance. They're hard to find in Canada.

Ah, I see.
All very good advice.
I suppose I should wait until I actually own one to figure out if the stock gear is good stuff, you know, on my own.
Also- good stuff to know about Ibanezes. Until I played (this) one, I didn't really think much of them, but they're pretty sweet. I mean, as far as construction goes. I haven't gotten enough time to screw around with one to really know the electronics.

62bass-- they're only like $680 on musiciansfriend. Don't they ship to Canada?

No, they don't. I could get one if I tried hard enough and had it shipped to a third party, then to me. It's fine. I've got enough basses now even though I recently sold off 3. But the SRX 700 is a very nice bass. I played one when they arrived in Canada after they first came out. Went back and played it a few more times. They were selling in Canada at the time for $799 and our dollar was only about .72. I should have bought it then but life got in the way.

Ah, well, at least you've got other basses that make you happy

pffft... life... I try to stay away from that crap. It just gets in the way of things that matter more
