Would you just replace the whole tuning peg, or try to glue the tuner and brackets back in? I have all the parts, just not sure what the best way to go is.
I was looking for a replacement, but was not having much luck finding one that A. Fit, B. was black, C. was available as a single.
I am thinking of putting the tuner back in and gluing down the brackets with Tight Bond or something else, looking for suggestions.
oh the bass is a 1989 MIJ Fender Power Jazz Bass Special

If those tuners have any kind of coating on them (99% sure that they do), it takes quite a bit of doing to get 'em right.
Those riveted anchor tuners are POS to begin with IME, an usual cost cutting method, why not replace them all with something better?
They all are going to fail. Sooner or later.

I put a Hipshot Bass X-tender on it right after I got the bass, so this tuner's been sitting in my parts box for 23 years. On it's way to Chris tomorrow.

Sam | Couple of reasons not to replace them:
1. To really get an upgrade will cost me at least $100, to get black probably closer to $150
2. Those tuners have been on the bass for 21 years, only one has failed and that one was damaged when I received the bass. Pretty confident they should hold up.
3. This bass is becoming more and more "collectable" and finding a direct replacement to the tuning machines is difficult, any I would add may require modification and drilling. Would prefer to not alter the bass.
4. I am lazy. If it aint broke, why eff with it? If it is broke, fix it.
That being said I have considered replacing them and still may do so some day, as honestly they are the weakest point on the whole bass. Everything else is quality. I replaced the PUPs (still have the stock for if I decide to sell) and this bass is a beast. |

John | Ok, then I take mine back -- this is why TB is awful! We need fewer people like you here! j/k still decent of you -- you saved him having to buy a full set or an inordinately expensive single...

John | LOL, if you were closer I would have dropped off the six myself.
Since you brought up beer, and a fine brew at that, if you can get Southern Tier brews out your way check out the Old Man Winter: http://www.southerntierbrewing.com/beers.html#seasonal
