HS Ultralites coming apart

Twice now I've had Hipshot Ultarlite tuners come unthreaded on me. The 'button' or paddle-shaped part that you actually turn to tune is threaded on to the shaft. I assume they put some sort of high-strength loctite to keep them from turning, but again, twice now they've failed. Has anyone else had this problem?

No, I've never had that happen...nor has anybody else apparently. I've tightened the cap screw at the opposite end of the shaft to maximize tension but that's about it. I have a brand new set of chrome cloverleaf 3/8" Hipshots sitting on my computer table at home; I'll take a closer look. In the meantime, snag a pic and e-mail it to Hipshot. I'm sure they'll help you out. Are these Hipshot or Hipshot licensed?

They are genuine Hipshot. The bass is in the shop getting the frets dressed- the guy doing the job has already talked to HS; they advised him to apply red loctite & let it set for 5 hours. I'll be picking it up Monday; we'll see if it works then...
BTW, according to my repair guy, HS told him they've had this issue before & are tooling up to use reverse threads where it will make tightening the string also tghtening the button, if that makes sense(not worded well, blame me ).

That should do the trick! Yes, the thread reference makes perfect sense. I'll assume the "paddles" are the Y's and not the cloverleafs? The reason I'm asking is because the cloverleafs appear to fit snugly in a channel; they are not threaded on. Did that make sense?

They are the 'Y' type paddles, & yes that does make perfect sense. Are the cloverleaf type removeable?
I've got the bass back & it seems to be fixed, although I have not had to use the formerly bad tuner yet. we'll see...

It appears as if the cloverleafs are "at one" with the shafts (inserted in a channel) and not threaded. 6 of my basses have the 3/8" post with Y paddles but I've not yet encountered the problem you described. Now that I've said it, things will probably start falling off left and right for no apparent reason.
