Hudson Valley Luthier?

Sign in to disble this ad
Sadly, my luthier passed away and I don't know of any others in the area. FWIW, Gary of Crackerbox music was a true artist and craftsman.

Can anyone direct me to high quality repair services/lutheiry in New York's Hudson Valley? I am located midway between NYC and Albany.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to talk to Bill Merchant. He has a space in Manhattan but also one in High Falls, which I think is not too far from you. Great guy, will not gouge you, and knows his stuff. He mostly works on double basses but is also perfectly good on EBGs. I've had him work on my stuff for years.

How far do you feel like driving? if you don't mind going to upper Westchester (almost Putnam), you could try Doug Proper:

He does mostly guitars but can handle basses as well.

Also, Joe Veillette's shop is in Woodstock. I dunno if he does repairs, but you could ask:

Excellent. I am in Dutchess County, by the way. I'm willing to drive to any of the places you've mentioned.

Just sent an e-mail to Bill Merchant re: repairs for my f'less Warwick Corvette. My wife dropped a lamp on it and gouged the neck, BTW. We'll see what he says.
