Good afternoon Talkbass members!
I am experienced (enough) in bass setup and repair, but my current predicament has me stumped.
I am having a horrible buzzing everywhere I shouldn't be. From the 3rd fret down, its buzzing, from the 13th fret up, its buzzing. I am very confused, and would appreciate any assistance
If it matters, I have an Epiphone Goth Thunderbird with DR Black Beauties. Thanks

You may want to try a different set. I love DR strings and use em all the time - but sometimes you get a bum set with em.

I would lock down relief first...

I have done many adjustments over this week, and they work when I do them. I then pick up my bass the next day, surprise, it's all buzzed up once again.
Since it is a 3 point bridge (I was reading a thread on them), I tried screwing the pegs all the way down, and working my way up. It is kind of working, but from 5th fret down is still too low, and therefore buzzing.
You stated a lack of information, what would you like to know?

You note that things seem to be suddenly changing ("I have done many adjustments over this week, and they work when I do them. I then pick up my bass the next day, surprise, it's all buzzed up once again."), which is not unusual when seasons are changing. Is that the case where you live?
Also, "many adjustments" implies that, assuming relief was adjusted, you might not have allowed the neck enough time to acclimate to the adjustment. Most of the movement happens right away, but wood is not a perfect material. Add that to seasonal sway, and funny things can happen.

I wait a day, and then try again. I am in Canada, and the cold weather is just passing, so that may be the culprit | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
