I BROKE MY BASS, SOMEONE HELP

Sign in to disble this ad
**Wrong Area, Moderator, can you post this in the "Set Up & Repair" forum please!!!**

OK, I think I may have been giggin a little too hard the other night but when I took my bass out today and looked at, my volume knob was bent downward. I pulled the knob off to check it and sure enough, the little volume adjustment thingy was bent. I put the knob back on and attempted to bend it back into polace and then "snap" it broke. I can barely play the bass, so I have no idea on how to fix one. Can someone help me out with this? I have an Officially Licensed Ernie Ball.

Thanks
J

Look on the back of the pot, replace it with one of the same value, until then if you can't get the volume to work just replace the pot with a piece of wire, you'll be at full volume but at least it'll work.

Just buy a new volume pot from ernie ball, carefuly unsolder the current one and solder the new one on. If you're unsure about doing this yourself go to a luthier, it shouldnt cost too much to do.

as they said... replace the pot with one of the same value - soldering it yourself should be okay if you follow the soldering how to's in the setup forum and in here... its really just a case of 'copying' the wiring on the existing pot. It has 3 'legs' and a body, so take a note of which wire goes where.

Important "idiot" tip:-
Before taking something apart, I always take a photograph of it first. With witing I make a diagram too. Its anoying how many possiblities look "obvious" when its all in pieces.

I'll bet that since he sez "Officially Licensed Ernie Ball" that it may be an OLP knockoff, and not a real MusicMan. Ernie Ball/MusicMan does not bill their stuff that way - you don't have to license what you own! So, for parts, I suspect that OLP will be the source, not MusicMan. Could be wrong, but it sure sounds that way . . . .

I guess the bottom line is that if you got it for a couple of hundred bucks, it's an OLP, if you paid over a grand, its a MusicMan . . . (at least if bought new . . . )

I agree, probably an OLP.
