I got jello water in my bass. Help?

So on Friday I played a Halloween show in drag and I gave myself fake boobs filled with home made blood. Since I couldn't find red food coloring I just used strawberry jello mix, corn syrup, and water. It ended poorly when my boobs got stabbed and I sprayed pink water all over myself, the audience, and the bass. Fortunately its not my main bass and is tuned in 5ths and I played last night's gig no problem.

I wiped off the outside of the bass to get the water off of it and back at the studio that night I noticed the output was low and distorted.

What do you think is wrong with the bass? Is it possible that I shorted out the pickup or will some contact cleaner on the pots and jack fix it?

Jello water bothers basses tuned in fourths, but, we presume from the above comment, not in fifths?

Would it be kinder to, or harder on, 5-string or 6-string basses?

Inquiring minds....................

I'd say that if it's working, it's working. You didn't hurt anything - so don't mess it up by trying to get into the electronics. Just use a damp cloth to wipe off anything that might stain.

You may have shorted the battery. Change that first, then move on to the preamp.

...so getting stabbed in the boob wasn't a problem otherwise?

Its a passive bass P-bass. Sorry its halloween and I've been drinking and nows the time when I have internet and I decide to post on TB. Sorry for the pointless extra info.

I made a pretty woman though. When I got stabbed in the boob I also got a nice 1" slice on my chest too.

Sorry about the slice! Actually, that place may not be too high on your list of places to play again. Being stabbed kinda takes the attraction out of the venue. Depending on the situation, that stab might have been followed by an arrest.

Glad you're OK. Your P will be fine - just wipe it off and resume playing.

A 1" cut in the right place can kill you, methinks.

I would disassemble the bass to clean it out, actually. Wipe with damp cloth, leave to dry, and then assemble. I'm going to assume the jello/corn syrup mix is sweet, and you don't want that gumming up your bass (no harm but it's probably going to be really gross if left alone).

I feel like this should be in the "bass humor" section. Yes, clean it. Sugar will do bad things to electronics/metals.
Think soft toothbrush, contact cleaner (electronics only), rag. I'd also suggest cleaning the hardware.

This may be the single greatest sentence ever posted on TB. I salute you, good sir.

I don't know what to do about the bass though, sorry. Make sure the inside is all dry?

Well when this happened to me I simply cleaned up my boobs and bass. The bass I let dry out and wiped down under the pickguard.

Oh this never happened to me , wrong story.
