I'm guessing water is dangerous, but i have really oily skin and my strings seem to get really greasy and sweaty. It doesn't affect my playing that much, but it kind of gets on my nerves and is a little embarassing everytme someone plays it. I don't think just a dry rag will get all the grease and stuff off. it might tho, but is there a better, more thorough way to clean it? like maybe once a week or something?

Actually, this thread should be in the Setup forum, not General Instruction.

I find that having my groupies lick the fretboard clean works nicely.

I was wrong. It wasn't in the last week, although it seems like it was just yesterday.

Go to page 5 in this forum and check the thread "Lemon oil bad?" Lots of opinions there.

Any commercially available lemon-oil based fretboard cleaner and a soft microfiber cloth will clean any fretboard. I just bought a NOS bass that had been hanging in a music store for the last 4 years. 15 minutes later, it looked like new.

You do NOT need steel wool, sandpaper, harsh chemicals or anything else that tends to be recommended here from time to time. Just lemon oil and time.

I would also point out that typing "cleaning AND fretboard" into the search engine will yield a mountain of conversations on this very topic.
