I've been referred to a few places and I haven't found a guy that I am happy with. I live in the SF bay area. Anyone know of a good set up guy?

Aantones music in Newark is great but that's quite a bit away from San Mateo.

I'm an East Coast guy myself.... (Nice to see Meev is back though ) but I usually use Gary Willis' website to set up what I need myself. There are a few small shops around here I trust, but that would be crazy for you to pick so far away.

Seriously though, if you follow Gary's advice on his site, you shouldn't have much trouble. You just need a hex screw driver and a Phillip's and you're set tool wise.

I've been really happy with SF Guitar Works and Collopy Guitars, both in San Francisco.

SF Guitar Works do amazing work, but they have a backlog and can be pretty pricey. However, once you pay for a setup, you can bring it back anytime for a free adjustment. This is the only place I'll take my Lull.

Rich Collopy is a great mad-scientist type. He has done thousands of setups. I find him much faster and a bit cheaper than Guitar Works. He is pretty opinionated about how to set up a bass, and he'll do what he thinks is right, but I find that I agree with him most of the time. I've always been happy with his work and I've had him do everything from minor setups to some major surgery

Anyone else tried Steven Berk? I've seen him advertise on CL before.

I know him, and he has done work on both of my basses. I can recommend him to you.

Here's a vote for Greg Menacho of MSI Guitar Repair. Greg works out of San Jose - 408-275-6190

Just did a great job for me on my PRS CE Bass 4. Fast, quick, affordable, professional, no flaky "dude I only work on wednesday for an hour and a half before I zone out" kind of responses that I got from other alternatives.

Gary Brawer in San Francisco? http://www.brawer.com/
My son just bought a bass that was serviced there and was pleased with the setup. I don't know about the pricing.

I'm in San Mateo. If you find a good tech, post that here, I'd sure like to know someone in the area.
