I Need Shielding Help

Sign in to disble this ad
The situation is most definitely covered throughout the internet and talkbass.. I just have a few specific questions.

I will be shielding (using copper shielding tape) a Highway-One Jazz Bass. The main question being, is it necessary to shield the control plate? If so - the copper shielding should be in contact with the pots.. Meaning that the shielding should be grounded. If I am wrong, or if it's not necessary to shield the control panel, is it fine to screw any screw into the body itself (within the body-cavity) and solder the wire to the shielding tape? I know that my MIM Jazz bass is grounded in a similar fashion and I used the same screw to ground the pups... ANY help would be great. I'd like to get this done bytomorrow. Thx guys!

Not sure what you think you need a screw for. Just make sure a little shielding tape overlaps the edge of the cavity a bit, at one of the control plate screw holes. The control plate is grounded already, and this will ground the tape for you when the plate is screwed down.

That helps a lot... But... Do I have to shield under the metal control plate?... I assume so, but I'd rather know for sure. Thx

No, you don't have to add shielding tape under the metal control plate, if that is what you are asking.

But you do need to ground it, and if you follow dmusic148's suggestion you'll be fine.

No, you don't, because the plate IS shielding. And it's grounded by the pots that are screwed to it.
