Ibanez 6 needs new bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I just noticed that the bridge on my Ibanez SR506 is bent. As in, the bridge itself from where the strings enter the bridge to about where they cross the saddle is actually OFF of the bass. The screws in the middle of the bridge that hold the plate down, are preventing it from coming up further. Instead of the string-height screws being perpendicular to the body, they are leaning forward--you get the idea. Obviously, a new bridge where the WHOLE bridge would be touching the body is better for tone, sustain, and even volume. My question is, can I easily replace the older Ibanez bridge with the newer Accucast(B106)? And does anyone have an idea about how much the bridge itself may cost? I can't find any listings anywhere...

BTW, none of this has affected the playability. I've only ever adjusted the action once since I first set it up 4 years ago. But it is substantially quieter than any of my other basses.

Thanks,
Dean

Anyone have any guesstimates on the amount of volume and tone one might incur by replacing the bridge?

A) miniscule
B) A reasonable amount
C) Good chunk
D) What the heck did you wait for so long for?!?

D)

make sure the replacement you get has correct string-spacing, and when mounting, check that you have enough saddle-movement-room for intonation. you´ll propably need new holes for the new bridge, and may need to fill some of the old ones, too...

I actually found a Hipshot 6 on Ebay. They say the spacing is 3-9/32". Which is what the distance is between my high C & low B on the Ibanez. That IS the measurement I'm looking for right?

BTW, I've played for over 17 1/2 years, I just never replace anything besides batteries, in case I sound a trifle noob-ish.

just in case...

string spacing is measured center-to-center on the strings...

[I made the mistake once...]

Well, it would appear that my spacing is right in between the .669 & .708 as per the Hipshot site. I'm sitting right around the .6875 mark.

It seems as though, if they measured correctly, that the Ebay auction is NEITHER the .669 nor the .708, but exactly what I need.

This isn't that hard, but my brain is starting to hurt, and I'd like to wrap this up sooner than later.

Heck I even got help from Sheldon Dingwall on this.
(Shameless plug, I know)

I have exactly the same problem as the original poster with a '96 SR506...has anyone managed to get a Hipshot A to fit? Any other bridge suggestions?
