Ibanez Acoustic Bass buzzing low notes

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone.

I got an Ibanez EWB20WNE acoustic bass a couple of weeks ago and I've just noticed today that it buzzes quite a lot when I play some of the low notes. It sounds like it is coming from the inside of the bass but I'm not sure.
I'm suspicious because it only really occurs from Ab - B, and not on an open E, or a low F etc.

Is this normal? And if it isn't how do I get it sorted?

Thanks.

There are several different types of 'buzzes'. all are different and all require a different fix.

Fret to string interference, interference buzz from amp, loose hardware, unwanted resonances from things like pickguards, loose string windings, undeveloped playing technique, etc. etc.

As you can see, it's absolutely imperative that you systematically isolate it down to the type of buzz that you have.

A couple of questions: does the buzz come through the amp? Is there any improvement from fretting closer to the fret with a good bit more pressure?

No buzz through an amp. It sounds like it is coming from inside the soundhole.

I'm afraid I can't be much more specific than that =(

I can't be much help to you without seeing the bass. It could be anything from a wire contacting the top or back to a loose top brace inside the guitar.

I can say that buzzes are never normal or acceptable in a new instrument.

I noticed the same thing with my ABG...investigating found it to be the wires from the preamp to the jack weren't secure. A peice of plastic keeping the wires together touches a brace and vibrates. Move wires, secure to side, no more buzz. Hope your problem is just as easy.
