Ibanez BTB - Hardware corrosion

Sign in to disble this ad
Having come back to playing after a while I dug out my BTB 405 QM to find that there is some corrosion on the bridges and the knobs. I know i should have kept it drier and cleaner but the damage is done.

Does anyone know if i can clean these up without damaging the satin finish, or will i need to get a bit more drastic and get new hardware or get the existing hardware chromed?

Cheers

What you can do is try 0000 steel wool, be sure to get the #0000 stuff, and polish the hardware with that. It should do no damage and may take the corrosion off depending on the corrosion.

I use the same technique myself. Works wonders, but it still only does so much.

I have the exact same issue on my BTB and have heard this as a common complaint from other BTB owners as well. Apparently the hardware is where Ibanez chose to cut corners in order to hold the line on pricing for these particular models.

I haven't tried anything yet so thanks for the steel wool suggestion.

Keep the steel wool - and any particles coming off it (there will be plenty) AWAY from the pickups. They will attract the particles energetically.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll give that a go, and test on an inconspicuous area first!
