Ibanez BTB405 Nut

Sign in to disble this ad
Just fitting some new strings on my 405 and decided to clean the fretboard so took all the strings off. The nut came away too but looked like it should be glued to the headstock? Should I glue it when I fit the new strings so they fix it in position or is it ok unglued??

Yes.

Clean the bottom of the nut and the surface on the headstock. Apply a couple of dots of glue. Total coverage here is not important. The strings are used to clamp the nut to the headstock. It is a good idea to have the strings mounted at the bridge when the glue is applied. White glue has an open time of ~7 minutes which is plenty of time if the strings are already on the bass. Tuning the strings to pitch is unnecessary. It can also make the nut tip over before the glue cures. Tune to pitch after eight hours or better yet wait over night.
