Ibanez Destroyer restoration project

Sign in to disble this ad
This much-loved Destroyer is a mess. The finish is beaten, chipped, chewed, and has mammoth buckle damage. I want to strip and repaint the body, which appears to have plastic binding. Can anyone please offer any help or tips on a stripping product or method that will preserve the binding?

I would ultimately like to paint the body solid white, so should I remove the plastic binding and replace it with wood binding?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think new binding might be the way to go.

I dunno, I can't think too straight, i'm just in love with that bass right now.

I used Dad's on my Destroyer with good results http://dadseasyspray.com/index.php?p=6&s=22

You have inspired me to move my own Destroyer restoration to the top of my project list

okay so I pulled the stripped body out and spent a couple hours today sanding, raising grain and resanding...

now I'm about to start pulling the binding. I'm going to prime and paint with chrome silver out of a rattle can and then rebind with tort binding
