Ibanez just stopped working... crap

I own an Ibanez SR300DXF that was working perfectly until it of course stopped working. It has active pickups so I changed the battery and it still refused to produce sound. But I remember that before it stopped I heard a pop then it became distorted then stopped. So I know that it wasn't a dead battery and it's not the cable. So it's got to be the electronics. I don't know what to do o I need some help from you guys. I really want to add my fretless back to the arsenal.

Well, the same thing happened to me several years ago with my Ibanez BTB405. It popped, snapped, crackled, popped some more and I thought I had fried the electronics. I checked the batteries and they registered about 8.9 volts each. I thought that wasn't so low as to cause the problem but changed the batteries anyway. Problem solved. I just learned that my BTB doesn't like anything but fresh fully charged batteries over 9v. Now, this may not be your problem at all, but you might want to check you battery(s) to make certain they are indeed fresh with full voltage. I hope it's not failed electronics. I was certainly relieved to discover mine hadn't failed.

I'll try the battery once more but if I remember correctly it was a fresh battery last time. I sincerely hope it isn't dead electronics as I don't really have the money to buy new electronics and get them installed.

I've had the input jack go bad on several active Ibanez basses; I've never had a preamp go dead.

My ergodyne had a problem with a loose input jack and I always had to go in there and resolder the wire that comes loose, happened a few times.

I looked inside but I didn't see any loose wires at all. I checked the jack and it's solid and has no loose wires. I'm gonna double check just in case I missed anything.

I used to have that same problem with my Ergodyne about every 6 months.

you probably didn't *see* any loose wires.. i suggest you resolder (if you have done this before or have the confidence of doin' it) all the wires on the input jack.

Also, even tought i don't know what kind of battery you used as a replacement, i suggest you go for a good brand like energizer or duracell (some people just don't get it, quality over quantity)

hope that can serve you!

If it's the jack like on the SR800, RB850, or ATK300 (the basses I've owned), then what sometimes happens is one of the contacts breaks inside the jack, and I assume that's the contact the battery lead is soldered to as the bass is just dead. It's happened enough to me that it's the next thing I look at after the battery. Carvin and G&L use those jacks too, so I guess I've been replacing those damn things semi-regularly for the last 20 years. In fact, I've taken to putting an on/off switch in line just so I didn't have to plug and unplug my basses so often.
