Ibanez SR 500 - Problem finding the right Hipshot D-Tuner!?

Sign in to disble this ad
Please help with any advice with this. I can't seem to locate the proper Hipshot (or equivalent) Drop D model that will fit on the SR 500 bass. I had ordered the GB7 model from Guitar Center (their recommendation) yet when it arrived it could not be installed properly. When the lever is extended, it interferes with the G-String tuner. I called Hipshot and they seem to think they don't have any that would fit this application. If you have experience with this or have a solid recommendation I would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance....

You could try a D'tuner bridge.

Thanks Blind Rat!

Problem is that Hipshot doesn't appear to make them and I can't find any (other than Steinberger) and not sure if that option would work without affecting other strings....any thoughts?

I don't understand the problem. Won't the lever drop far enough before hitting the G tuner? It should, even angled as the SR 500 tuners are.

No...unfortunately even after taking it to GC....they showed me that installed properly the lever fully extended is blocked by the other tuner (G)... crazy huh?

If you drill another pilot hole for the set screw over slightly, it will work, the tuner position just won't be "stock".

I had a Soundgear 800 that I changed the tuners to Schaller M4's, and used the Hipshot M4 and it worked fine. I didn't alter the bass in any way, but if I do it to my current 800 I plan on plugging the headstock holes and redrilling as the Schallers don't need as big a hole as the Gotohs do.
