Ibanez TR-50 Setup Question

Sign in to disble this ad
My Tr-50 needs a new nut, and I have heard upgrading to a carbon fiber(or bone) Nut and a Carbon Fiber(or brass) Bridge can really improve sustain and sound quality. Can anyone Verify this?

I have been looking for a bridge for the Bass and having a hard time finding information because it is a little known entry level bass from the mid to late 90s. Does anyone know what style or brand of bridge that would work with this guitar? Cost is a factor for me so am definitely looking for value for $.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What sort of issues are you experiencing with sustain & sound quality?

No real sustain issues, the sound last a few seconds. Trying to make it last as long as I can because the style of music I play often calls for Whole or Half notes in the bass line often, and I want the sound to last as long as I can. The Nut on the other hand look pretty pad, the G string is 2x deeper than the rest and the A and D string are wallowed out above and below where the string rests.

as far as sound quality, I am still playing around with the variables trying to get the right sounds out of it, I like a clean warm sound that can be played strait most of the times, I rarely use anything more than amp effects and compression.

A good quality bridge can absolutely increase tonal transference into the wood, and give a better sound and more sustain. A new bone nut may sound better than a plastic one, but only on the open notes. The most important benefit of having a new nut made is that it will be at the perfect height and spacing, rather than the plastic factory nuts which are almost always cut wrong.
