Idea for new sticky - your thoughts?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks. I have an idea for a sticky in this forum, and I'd like to get your thoughts.
I'd like to create a sticky that names the parts of the bass that are part of a setup. It'd be more of an impartial explanation of what each part did, it's oart in a setup, pro's and con's of various settings, and such. Nothing that says to "do it this way", but enough information to help a newbie or novice.
For example (and this is off the top of my head, so don't take it too literally):

Nut: This is the piece at the headstock end that the strings sit in. The slots are cut to fit the strings. It can affect the tone, but only of open strings. If the slot is too deep, you could get fret buzz on open strings. If it is too shallow, it may take more pressure to fret strings at the lower frets.

Truss Rod: Blah blah....

And maybe a couple of my infamous Visio drawings. Of course, with content from all you experts out there.

What say you?

Edit: If it's a crappy idea, let me know as well. I won't take it personally........much.

Not a half bad idea at all. Beginners don't know that stuff, so it would help and possibly save us from having to answer the same questions over and over.

A sticky with links to some of the good setup websites out there would be a resource for all of us.

Too many stickies spoil the forum. A link to a diagram naming the parts of the guitar might be a useful option if it were embedded in one of the existing stickies. The labels should be labels only without any description as to the function of the part. That would lead to a debate that would be long on opinion, short on fact, and lacking in consensus altogether.
