Could this be that my neck is warped a bit? I'm using a Squier Vintage Modified 70's jazz bass. Not stock string... Ernie Ball strings. I'm pushing down on the strings really hard just to not get buzz, but man oh man is it starting to hurt! And below the 12th fret is another story It's almost like playing a Bee. Any advice? |

You just need a proper setup done on the bass. A setup can make or break a bass.

Learning or teaching yourself on a bass that already has problems is problematic. Much better to have some idea what you're doing and needing to accomplish before hand. |

| | | | What do they do in a "setup" exactly. |

| | | | They adjust your truss rod, bridge, pu height, and intonation. |

Do you have to push down really hard on the 1st & 2nd frets? Sounds like a nut slot issue, as well...
Yes, by all means, spend the money for a decent setup...you'll thank yourself...
also, you should learn (do the research and understand how everything interplays) about setting up yourself...
It took me a very long time to get good at setups, but how convenient to be able to tweak your own instruments to the exact way that you want them to play. |

I paid for a set up on my Jazz bass , under $50...plus new strings.....I don't mess around with my instruments myself. Suppose I could but, I'd rather not. Also had my new Prs guitar set up, it had some fret buzzing and when it shipped in they included a neck truss bar ,,,left it alone and the same shop did it for around 70.00 (strings included) ...
Listen to the other comments, they are right as usual......
