im kinda confused?! 2 questions

Sign in to disble this ad
i was reading about a bass for sell and it said "frets are decent with a good amount of life left." The frets are considered the metal inlays right? So why would a seller put this? does the metal slowly thin over time or what? also what signs should i look for to see if my bass has this?

Also does cleaning your fretboard matter at all? I have the fender fretbaord cleaner in the black bottle and i havent noticed much difference in anything.so what are your thoughts?

sorry about the beginner questions even tho i am experienced

The frets wear down over time from the abrasion from the strings. Roundwound strings can wear the frets faster than flatwound strings. After some time, years usually, the frets will need to be levelled. This can be done a couple times until there is not enough fret left. Then the frets need to be replaced.

It'll be a long time before you need to worry about it.

I clean fingerboards once in a while with some naptha and a soft cloth. I personally think the fingerboard cleaners and polishes sold in the music stores a big waste of money when I can use naptha which is much cheaper and does every bit as good a job.
