Most competing thread locks use the same color system. It's a liquid that you apply to the threads before you run the nut down that holds it in place. |

Open the instrument up and tighten the two together using a pair of spanners. This gets it nice and tight and it shouldn't come undone again. It's not as reliable as scott's method, but I'm slightly scared of messing about with glues around the jack.

By contrast, I'm a little reluctant to have to apply too much force to my components. In my experience, jacks that work their way loose will do it pretty much no matter how hard you tighten them.
Loctite blue isn't permanent, but it keeps your threads, and only your threads, just tight enough not to work loose. It cures when the threads are tightened down and air can't reach it. Otherwise it stays wet long enough to wipe off and clean up. I haven't ever let it dry to see if it actually "bonds" to anything simply because it takes so long, but I'd imagine that it just gets crusty and brushes away. YMMV. |
