Inserts Mod

Well, I got an SX not too long ago and finally got around to the steel insert mod that I've wanted to do since before I bought it. I did not have the tools to do this at my apartment. So, I went to my grandparents' house. My grandpa has a drill press.

Now, since I didn't know what I was doing, I asked him to do the drilling. He did it so quick I didn't really get a good chance to take a picture. Sorry TB.

I did run in to an interesting problem after the drilling, however. The inserts went in easy, but the screws did not. First of all, we had to finangle the bass (that's a technical term) to get it level and get the neck and body close enough to get the screws to engage the threads. Then, two of the screws went in pretty easy, two of them did not. So after more finangling we just pulled out a couple of other 8/32 size screws my grandpa had and they went in easy. Only thing is, they're not stainless steel and they don't match the other two screws.

I do have a pic of that:

I really do think it would be better to replace those with the stainless ones and just jerk it around until it fits right, but I'm hesitant to take it apart again anytime soon. If you're wondering: there is a difference in the tone. I can't really describe exactly how it's different, it just sounds different.

Actually, that looks really Custom Handmade. I'd say leave it.

I was also going to redo the wiring and shield the pickup cavities while I was there...but my cheap radioshack 15 watt soldering iron can't even get hot enough to melt the solder...

My grandpa is going to dig around for his, it should be plenty to do the job, but I'm still bummed.

You know, you're right. It gives it the "franken-bass" vibe.
