Installing P-Bass bridge cover

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to install a bridge cover on my P-bass. I'm looking for guidance on how close to the bridge it should go. Should I just put it right up agains the back of the bridge, or as far toward the bottom of the bass as possible, or somewhere in between?

Thanks in advance for the help.

AFAIK, it shouldn't be touching the bridge at all. it should be in between.

I imagine as long as the whole bridge is covered (and it's not rubbing right up against it), you're fine.

Make sure you drill pilot holes first or else the finish will crack - mine did - oops!

You don't want it to touch the bridge itself.I looked at alot of pictures of P-basses with these covers before I put mine on my Squire. See how it kind of lines up with the curve of the pickguard- almost the same distance from the bottom of the bass if the pick-guard was continued around under the bridge?

when you do it, first tape over where you will be drilling, then start the drill backwards untill you are through the finish, then make it go normal into the wood

Here's original placement on a 1963 P...original cover in place.

Don't let it touch the bridge - study lots of photos and you can get it right.

Just wondering here, but how do you make sure you avoid drilling through the ground wire when putting a bridge cover on?
