Installing pickup covers

ive always wanted to put pickup covers on a fender jazz bass (which im hopefully getting). I was wondering. do i need to drill holes in my bass to put them in?

Yes. If you're worried about having the holes in your bass, the ones you create for the neck pickup cover will be through the pickguard and into the body, so if you want to hide them you can just swap pickguards and no one will be the wiser. If you put in the bridge cover, those are straight into the body. You could fill them at a later date and use touch up paint, so it's not the end of the world.

so thats also saying that if i wanted to i could take off the pickguard all together and fill in those holes aswell?
