intonation spring buzz

Sign in to disble this ad
hey, recently my g string has been buzzing when im popping / playing hard, and for a while i couldnt figure out what it was cus it was kinda sporatic.

however it seems to be the case that the intonation spring behind the saddle isnt compressed (like the others) and so the string is vibrating it. the only problem is that the intonation is perfect atm

any suggestions, ideas?

thanks

Try a nylon or plastic bushing or a few washers to compress the spring- Home Depot might have them in those drawers with the specialty fasteners.

You could even make one from a dowel, chrome plate it with tin foil.

Just remove the screw and the spring and stretch the spring a little bit. You don't have to disturb the intonation if you just leave the string tuned to pitch, it will keep the saddle in place while you adjust the spring.

Sometimes I even amaze myself at how I can find a difficult solution to a simple problem - it's a gift.
