Issues (potentially) with Peavey G Bass truss rod

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy.

I have a question for the experts here

I got a Peavey G Bass used and have a couple of questions before my return policy is out.

The bass seems to be in perfect working order. The only issue is that I wanted straighten up the neck just a tad for playing preference and it seems like the truss rod is resting against the back of the truss rod chamber. A regular hex wrench will not fit or access properly due to it sitting against the back of the hole.

I am going to go buy the "stumpy" shorter hex keys if you think that will make a difference, due to the angle the standard hex keys are too long. I assure you, the pic isn't great but the truss nut is NOT stripped and it looks like it was made like this from the factory because inside it doesn't look like it was ever adjusted, but at the top it looks like someone (like I wanted to do) tried to do it but it is ONLY at the very top. No stripping in the actual hole itself.

Any input would be appreciated.

Will a wobble head work (ball end) ? I had a bass like that before. I shaved down some of the paint in that area because it was globbed on pretty thick, and was able to get it with a long wobble hex. Those are pretty cool basses btw.

Thats a wierd issue you got with the head and cabs in the video. Dosen't make any sense what so ever. Are you running the head in to the first cab and then to the second? or 1 cab per output? Does it fart when you hook it up both ways?

That sounds like square wave distortion. Like the power amp in the head is distorting under load without the limiter on , but you can hear the limiter crackle a bit also. Something isn't right in the power amp, not component wise I would say, but build spec wise. The fact that it only does it with those cabs makes me wonder if the impedance is off somehow in the cabs , or if they are wired correctly. I'd be curious how they got the impedance rating on the cabs. If they are wired direct to the speakers or if there is load resistor in there somewhere. THATS Wierd!!

Called Peavey. Was advised to take a Dremel and just shave off the sides that were the problem.

Now it's fine. Truss rod works and some black sharpie touch ups and it's golden.

I deleted it after I had a conversation with Ampeg support yet again. Ampeg is taking care of the issues.

Good call. I've shortened the business end of hex keys to contend with "tighter" access areas. My Roscoe Century comes to mind.

Glad to hear you're up-and-running!
