I've always heard that weather affects your neck

but I never realized just how quick that change could be!

The weather where I live got SUDDENLY cold. It just dried out. I havent touched my bass in about a week due to being busy with school, and today, I picked it up and the strings were so flat, which never happens. I can drag the thing around in and out of its case all day long, and its always in tune. But today its maybe half a step flat.

so I tune it, but it just sounds dead. I play with my EQ for maybe 5 minutes, with no change. And then I really take notice of the action. The neck today has so much more relief than before, maybe an 8th of an inch. After my night class tonight I'm gonna have to spend probably an hour setting it up properly now (An hour because its a Ric and I need to read up on the dual truss rod deal before I touch it)

Our main gig is on a covered, outdoor deck.
Summer: 85 ~ 100
Winter: 32 ~ 70 (south Texas)
"and all points in between"

We tune during setup, before 1st set, once during 1st set(silent tuners with amp muting aka Line 6 stuff), and before 2nd set. More often if the weather changes quickly while we're playing. Necks we use here are mostly maple(fairly stable).

No biggie once you get used to it but it has not affected my overall setup.

COLD WEATHER

You might want to get a bass like a Modulus with a graphite neck. They are really stable even in cold weather.

It's not the cold that causes your setup to change.. it's any drastic change in temperature/humidity

I could be wrong

i've always attributed it mostly to the drastic humidity changes, which often fluctuate with the seasons, so it could be seen as connected to temperatures i suppose

Yeah, I mean temperature plays a role in it but the main cause of bow/backbow is the humidity

I'm not an expert on what's allowed on prime time USA TV (aka "the rules around here"), but this post is close enough that I'm not taking any chances.

I'm all for humor, but remember that it is a very subtle art...
