j pickguard with a P hole?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone know of a company selling pick guards that are J shaped but hold a p pickup? thinking about taking a j alder body and routing the neck pu to a P but want to keep it J looking in terms of pick guard to flow with the body. Ive seen a couple basses like this wondering if anyone is selling this premade?

I think Warmoth does. Pick a jazz guard and then when it asks for pickup route pick P.

Check out WDMusic (wdmusic.com). I have a Fender P Bass Special (has a P pickguard but 4 control knobs).I ordered their standard P Bass pickguard and for a small upcharge ($5) they drilled the extra hole. They can do all sorts of customizations.

Just be careful because some models have pickups in different spots.

Good luck!

yeah, i wont be routing the hole until i have the pickguard. its a J route now so as long as the J is covered by the pg i can route as needed, plan on lightening the bass anyways with some routing since this will not be a seller but a player. ive been wanting a PJ to take to gigs since im doing alot more 80s metal in my shows.

standard precision pickup placement will not be covered by a J pickguard. Warmoth pickguards have additional room to fit the P pickup, but you won't be able to go back to a jazz pickup and look stock.

The Mark Hoppus pickguard is standard J size and has the P pickup in a slightly different position.

Also, ha ha, you said P hole....

as i said P hasn't been routed yet, I just want the look of the J since it is a J body and is currently using a J PG, but i want a P in the neck position, as long as the PG covers the existing j route and the exisitng screw holes can either be used or covered by the PG, I will route out the p based on the PG routing.

and yeah i didnt think when posting

Warmoth makes 2 diffferent size J pickguards. The J pickguard routed for a P pickup is larger to accomidate the P hole (haha...I said P hole, too). I found this out after I bought one and noticed the new pickguard mounting holes were nowhere even close to the original holes in my MIM Jazz Bass. I tried to get a Reggie Hamilton pickguard but Fender will not sell them to the public. The Warmoth pickguard is a nice quality piece, though.

So, you were able to get a replacement pickguard that fit your RH bass from Warmouth?
