Jackson 5 string Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys! I've done a search for this bass and found maybe one thread but not a lot of useful info. I'm looking to get new bass machines for this thing, knobs (because they keep falling off), and probably a new input jack (because for some reason my amp cable falls out of it all the time). Now this is a fun bass and it actually sounds really, really good. I've had it now for about 9 years or so. Bought it at a scratch and dent store and never got around to fixing it up. I'm simply trying to make it playable as a five string.

So here's the deal. I only spent like 200 bucks on this thing when I bought it, so I don't really want to spend 125 bucks on hipshot tuners if possible (unless that's really the only route to go). It's been missing the G tuning machine since I got it and I just have no clue how to even locate one online. The bass as far as I can tell doesn't even have a damn serial # on it. I believe it's a Concert bass, but who knows? (maybe one of you )

So any suggestions for cheap solutions to the items I need? Is hipshot pretty much the go to for tuning machines, bridges..etc? Any help would be appreciated as I've never upgraded anything on a bass before. The pickups work great and sound great, so those are staying just in case you were wondering.

PICS

Depending on how picky you, you can likely get away without buying new sets.

Those control knobs are common set screw type chrome control knobs. There's basically two types: flat top and dome top. They are all over eBay and parts sites.

The tuning peg looks like your basic Gotoh style with the small ears. It shouldn't be that be of a deal to find one that matches pretty closely. It might not match finish perfectly, but it will fit and look basically the same.

BTW, the D string is wound backwards on the post.

You can get an individual Gotoh tuner here for $12

STEWMAC.COM : Individual Gotoh Compact Bass Tuner

Does that bass have Hipshot tuners? I sell individual Hipshots for $20. other dealers do as well.

Thank you for the link!

It has the factory tuners on there. The hipshots look like they'd fit well though.

Very often factory tuners are Gotohs with another brand on them.
