Jaguar Tuners

So I've tried the search function and I'm confused.

I just got a Jaguar and the I don't like the tuners....I can't figure out which ones will work. It looks like whatever I choose there will be some reaming needed.

These are the 3 I'd like to use if possible

1st Choice
Genuine Fender 70's RI Tuners (Schallers.German Made)

2nd Choice
Hipshot HB-2

3rd Choice and maybe 1st because this could use a little neck-dive relief
Hipshot Ultralite Clovers (they come in different shaft sizes though?)

I'll have whichever pro installed but I want to make sure I get something that can be used and not too painful (or expensive) a job.

Help greatly appreciated.

If you e-mail Hipshot with the particulars, they'll advise regarding which (de-)tuners fit your bass:
- Exact drop-in replacements
- Ones whose mounting screws don't all line up but otherwise fit

An example of the latter is their current solution for recent Squier basses.
Hipshot will also send you pertinent drawings (if they are not already on their web site).

Presumably Schaller will do the same.

I've heard talk these necks are similiar, I'm going by memory but I think the Jaguar is a tad beefier.....but I've also read the Fender Japan purposely used their own heavy 70's RI tuners on the Jaguar. So they may not be the same tuners at all.

Either way these and the tuners I had on the Geddy were/are not so great. Kind of odd how the tuners on my Squier CV P and J were so much better.

I'm really digging the idea of Clover Key Ultralites on this bass though....if it's possible.

i put gotoh res-o-lites vintage reverse tuners on my jags and i love them. they're very lightweight (no neck dive) and way smoother than the hipshot ultralites on my bc rich mockingbird. the resolites have adjustable tension too.

Wow. I didn't even know about those. I ended up ordering the HB-2's before I saw this.

I'll let everyone know if they work out but those Gotoh's look nice.

The Hipshot HB-2's are installed.

It kind of seems that the Gotoh's are nicer and they're lighter....but I can't complain. The Hipshots are considerably lighter than the stock tuners, the screws lined up and I left the stock bushings in. They were a drop in perfect fit. 20 minutes to put on carefully.

I've felt smoother tuners but these are much better than any of the stock tuners I've played on any MIJ or MIM Fender.

I'm content with my return on the $70 invested.

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but are the Res-o-lites direct replacements for Jaguars, or did you drill new holes? I'm also searching for new Jag tuners.

no. they are not direct replacements. you'd have to drill new mounting holes, but my jags do not have stock necks (mine are block and bound)
