Jazz Bass 'Ashtray' bridge cover

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there, I just bought a highway one jazz bass and have always loved the look of the old ashtray bridge covers; would I be stupid to stick one on my bass? I know it's not an old '62 vintage or anything but it's purely decorative. Is changing strings with these things on an absolute bitch too? Any advice would be fantastic- cheers

I don't think it would be stupid; they look cool. You have to remove the cover to change strings.

I have a '62 RI, and I'd love to have both covers on it. They look great. They do, however, get in my way. I like to palm-mute right near the bridge and I also pluck all over the place. When I've tried to play with the pickup cover on, I just keep digging the sides of my fingers into it. I came close to putting them on the other day because I saw a picture of a bass with them, but in the end, I left them in the case.
