| Jazz Bass buzzing

My new custom made parts jazz bass (Warmouth body, All Parts bound and blocked neck) has been set up according to Fender specs, relief, string height, etc. and I'm still getting buzzing particularly on the D and G strings from the first to the 12 frets. When I dig in the E and A will buzz mostly on the 4-6 frets. This happens with fingerstyle playing and especially if I play with my thumb and finger plucking. I've loosened and tightened the truss rod in both directions over the course of the last couple of weeks and no good. If I raise the action it has to be raised very high to have any effect in stopping the buzz. I've tried string gauges 40-100 and 45-105 and shimming the neck (a business card width). Still no good. My MusicMan Big Al and my Sadowsky Metro play perfectly fingerstyle or thumb and I can dig in as hard as I want with no buzz whatsoever, and the action on both is relatively low. What next, a fret dressing? I'm pretty good at doing my own setups but just can't figure this one out. |
