Jazz bass pickup placement?

Sign in to disble this ad
I believe that fender jazz basses had the bridge pickup placed further back towads the bridge in certain years of manafacture, can anyone tell me the distance the newer basses have and also the bridge p/up distance of the older type?and do you measure the distance from the p/up cover to the front edge of the bridge plate which is screwed to the bass? Thanks.

Pre CBS Jazzes had a different spacing from the instruments built in the 70's.

You don't take dimensions like this by referencing anything that can be a variable. Bridges, neck pockets, pickguards, or pickup covers can all be different and render the measurement useless. The best reference points that are the same on ANY Jazz are the center of the pole pieces and the 12th fret.

On a 74 Jazz 14.5" from the 12th fret to the front edge of the bridge pickup.
