Jazz bass thumb rest

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased a jazz bass thumb rest from Amazon. Came in today. On one of the sides I noticed it has what appears to be a "chip" or something.

Dad's guess was an injection point for the mold.

Anyone else experience this or know for sure? I am trying to figure out if I roll with it and try to clean it up a bit or try for a new one or what.

Yeah, that looks like (as best as I can tell from that pic) an injection mark from the mold. The Fender brand thumb rest on my Squier Jazz has that, it's just not as prominent on mine. Just lightly hit it with the fine side of an emery board, or if you have access, progressivley finer grades of sand paper. Really an easy fix, no need to get another. It would likely have that same mark, and no guarantee it won't be as noticeable.

Thanks, I changed the pic to be a better one, I'll pass the suggestion to dad, hes been doing guitar stuff for years, so I am piggy backing off his experience. I just wanted to double check. I don't want to waste money on something i should get replaced. We've had bad luck with my bass start lol.
