Jazz bass volume controllers..

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey.
My Squier VM jazz volume controllers sits very loose on the controlplate.
Don't know how to explain it but when i go to max volume it goes a bit more and it gives me a bad feeling. (same if turned all the way to 0´*duuh*)
How do i take the pots off so i can tighten the [insert name for 6 edge tightning thing that i don't know the name for in english (see pic)]?

Im in a hurry so no time for spellcheck.
Thanks!

Normally, the knobs are held in place by a small screw that is in a hole somwhere around it. Once the knob is off the bass, you'll be able to tighten the (here's your word) nut, that should stop the pot. from rotating around.

Unrelated, but deals with the subject. Is there any reason why you couldn't replace the stock black knobs with the chrome ones used on P-basses?

Good point. Those Jazz knobs are so ugly. The only thing that is better on Precisions are the knobs.

The black knobs are held in by a little screw I believe. Unscrew that and take the knobs off, put chrome ones on, and experience the wonders of not having ugly knobs.

The screw should be on the knob itself, on the side somewhere. If there isn't a screw, you can just pull the knob off. If you want to be safe, put a dry cloth on the body and pry the knob loose slowly with a flathead screwdriver or whatever. After the knob is off, you can just use a pair of pliers to grip the nut and tighten it. Just turn until it requires a bit of force to turn any more - don't go much past that, or you might start cracking the wood.
