So I signed up for their mailing list (which is the prerequisite for DLing this guide) and I can't find the link for it. Does anyone happen to have the .pdf they can send me? I've sent a few e-mails to them and they haven't responded to my requests.

To be honest, I have had it for a while and I have not spent much time reading it. From what I remember, they do make a lot of assumptions about what the reader knows or more importantly doesn't know.

My problem with the string templates is that I couldn't cut along the line

the real reason I couldn't cut straight was cause when I tried, I was going through detox (had a little problem with vicodin-happy to say its not a problem anymore) and had the shakes

I think stewmac makes some metal radius measurement thingamabobs. You could look into those.
