Just Another Nut Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello. I've had a Peavey Millennium AC BXP 4, for about 5 months now. Everything about the bass is great. Electronics, feel, action, finish - Everything. I pick really hard, which is my influence from Metallica, so I use Ernie Ball Power Slinkys - 110, 90, 75, 55 - and they hold up good, that way they don't break. I've recently noticed that when I play my open A string, and I get some terrible nut noise, and it's present when I'm playing through my bands PA system. I've wound the string correctly, but maybe not enough is wound. When holding my bass in the playing position the string only wraps around twice, so I'm assuming that's the problem, but I trust you guys much more. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks TBers.

Sounds like you just have the a wound to high on the post. Try loosening it up and rewinding it so it sits lower. Also next time you change you strings try for three windings so that it naturally sits a bit lower.

And get some influences from some other bands.

I'll have to do that next time. There isn't much slack for it to be fixed, but for now I just slipped a really small piece of paper under the string. Thanks for the help...As for the rest of you guys - You're a bunch of douche bags.
